Electronic Design Automation (EDA) is at the core of silicon chip design. Modeling elements like the logic, thermals, and signal radiation, EDA is actually a pipeline of computationally intensive workloads needed to create a competitive and cost-effective product. The opportunities to create specialized architectures for accelerating compute kernels have fueled growth in both start-ups and major silicon manufactures alike. Access to EDA tools in the cloud have similarly opened the opportunity to find the next disruptive product.
EDA is essentially high performance computing for high performance computing. The pipeline of workloads are executed on compute farms, yet many challenges can limit or even hamper the design process. It’s important to consider and balance various elements in the EDA process:
-EDA license cost
-Simulation throughput
-Infrastructure cost
-Optimizations per workload
